Triclops! - Out of Africa
What strange noises emanate from my speakers.
Like a shot of adrenaline to an already hyper cannibal, Triclops! keep all forms of insanity in tact on album. With a live show that would make your guidance counselor gasp and an intensity all of their own, the band’s latest, Out of Africa, blends the best of Iron Maiden and the logical evolution of punk. Well, what’s logical about punk, right?
Vocals. Oh those vocals. They will make us all concede that lead singer, Johnny, will place a bit circular target on each of our ears and just kick like a toddler who wants out of a their room. First impression may feel a bit flat, but it’s layers of work. The distortion is a nice touch, but a tad over done. But that doesn’t really matter, but those vocals thrash with the rest of the band in a dance that makes me want to kick into the dark – any mosh pit Triclops! is a part of will surely have missing teeth and shoes.
“Freedom Tickler” is a testament to the band’s ability to transition from a drum circle to all out carnage – we’re talking two hobos fighting over pretzel carnage. I found myself with a grin when I could find working drum and guitar cords in a sea of screams.
Live, Triclops! puts many bands to shame. It’s a treat to see that they could put that on an album. It’s like someone is pushing cupcakes out of my stereo.
