Bad Dudes - Out of Africa
Starting off with a well-produced jam session, Bad Dudes’ “Eat Drugs” doesn’t stray very far from this formula for the first song… or the rest of the album.
It’s not a bad thing to have more of the same goodness throughout, but a little variety wouldn’t have hurt anyone. Bad Dudes take their name from the classic video game of the same name and it shows that these guys are into synth tracks and dynamic fugue guitars, building one on top of another. Just like Bad Dudes the game, the band’s album, has a smooth transition into explosive guitar solos and synth tracks. Tracks like “Secret Protector” and “Preteen Wolf” have a life of their own and really do control the flow of the album. It’s a dirty man’s tech/dance album.
On the track “Eat Drugs” you have the chorus chanting, “I wanna do drugs/I’m afraid of drugs.” Which should put them into a category above the kids who used to set up Sega Saturn emulators on their Dreamcast. It’s mathrock meets prog in a syth-induced coma.
