Coasting
The type of playful, nonthreatening set, where the band would be just as comfortable on stage as they would at someone’s backyard party – this is Brooklyn’s Coasting.
It’s a mix of surfer rock, nonstop drums and vocals that ease the day into neutral, over a cliff, into the rocks below and manages to somehow survive. At the Echo, the duo had this incredibly relaxed, whatever attitude about the whole thing – after each song they would look at each other and ask, “what do you think” as in what song do you want to play next? as in how you doing up here? as in what do you think of this crowd? Their set ended on an instrumental, car-chasing-another-car romp and it was great – really cleansed the palette of the day’s noise.
Rhythm and flow are barebones, the two of them yelping when need be and songs don’t stretch beyond the 4-minute mark, but it’s all so natural. There’s a feeling that music for them is like water to a fish: they just swim through it.
Coasting is Fiona on drums and Madison on guitar – both do vocals just fine thank you.
