As Sleepy Sun emerged from behind the curtain, it became clear that Kansas and Oz were always the same place. This excursion took place on a teetering ice shelf over a lava lake. Bret Constantino was tiptoeing on the stage, mouthing to the crowd before he even started, “HOW ARE YOU?”, as though Sleepy Sun were there to save a group of hostages, on a windy Sunday night at El Rey.

Constantino hovered over the organ, a table with a voice modulator, a harmonica and a plastic lantern that he would tap throughout the night. They sloughed through "Sleepy Son," and trampled the garden with "New Age," while along the way they practically stopped at a place called "Lord" which might have stalled the ride, but the song has peaks and valleys, starting off slow on the piano and then sort of falling apart like a melon cracked on the sidewalk, its seeds, hundreds of them, escaping into the sky.

There was a moment when the lens was reversed and the room was jolted to its opposite, everyone was in hysterics, but at the same time the drumming persisted and a harmonica cut through that dimension and we were all saved one more time.
