Smashed Chair

There’s translucence to Dead Confederate. They’ll be playing at the Troubadour Sept. 11 touring behind their newly pressed album Sugar.

Now for the translucence: Light passes through the leaves of a very old tree, where they did their homework on past art rockers and country acts and they pay homage to them, but never worship. Dead Confederate, from Athens, Georgia, strike a familiar chord, with the simplicity of a swaying tire swing, going back and forth, never mucking up their sound with showy semantics.

Dead Confederate’s second LP, Sugar, is the invitation of light from a time gone by, but excluding the details, so their whole is open to interpretation. Comparisons run up and down the music spectrum: their newest material is very early Trail of Dead, while ‘Rat’ was coming from a much darker well of inspiration.

Dead Confederate will be at the Troubadour, in West Hollywood, co-headlinging with Alberta Cross. Red Cortez will be opening the whole thing.
